What is the Filter Bubble?

I was listening to the Bald Scientist Podcast and I was struck with a virtual epiphany moment. Professor Pagan is a researcher and instructor at West Chester University in Pennsylvania, USA. He was interviewing a notable science communicator from Mumbai, India. The science journalist, Ms. Clarinda Cerejo, spoke passionately on the subject of bias in the media. The corrected terminology that she used was -- filter bubble. [A filter bubble is defined as that virtual space that people inadvertently fall into as they rely on ONE SOURCE or a FALSE SOURCE for their working knowledge -- it could be everyday knowledge of the world or specialized knowledge. Their views of the world become filtered by false information.]

Ms. Cerejo is a trailblazer in the field of science journalism. She led the listeners on a tour de force explanation on how to escape toxic science. It begins with understanding toxic science is information that masquerades as the truth. It needs to be called out as a lie or a deception. Ms. Cerejo emphasized that not accepting a false narrative is the best alternative. One needs to be vigilant-- check your sources. Not only can we escape toxic science, it is important to escape the lies and bias that lead to false narratives from false science. These narratives become the basis for disinformation peddled by reckless politicians --ones who have governed the U.S. from time to time.

CASE in POINT:
There is no doubt that bleach will kill the COVID virus. It was used in twisted narrative by a former President. In fact, bleach is used to disinfect rooms and wash loads everyday. --- HOWEVER, injections of bleach in your arm to combat COVID could prove deadly.

The twisted narrative comes into purview when it is normalized -- as we saw a person in  power push lies and deceptions for personal gain. Ms. Cerejo emphasized the importance of skepticism--- don't follow anyone blindly. In this critical time of a fractured citizenry that continues to stand with the former President, it is critical that parts of the US public continue to seek prosecuting the former President.

Anyone can fall prey to false narratives when you become passive with your beliefs and professed creed to the country.

It is a demon haunted world, indeed.
